Lee Wallard

Lee Wallard (1910–1963) was an accomplished American race car driver best known for winning the 1951 Indianapolis 500. Wallard’s victory was remarkable not only for his speed but also for his resilience—he overcame serious injuries sustained earlier in his career to claim the top step at Indy. Competing primarily in AAA Championship and IndyCar events in the late 1940s and early 1950s, Wallard was known for his consistent driving and mechanical understanding of his cars. His Indy 500 triumph, driving a Kurtis Kraft-Offenhauser, was the pinnacle of his racing career, earning him a place among the notable figures of mid-century American open-wheel racing.
