The 1934 Syracuse 100 was a points-paying race on the AAA National Championship trail, held on September 9, 1934, at the Syracuse Mile dirt oval at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, New York. The event was run over 100 miles on the one-mile dirt surface and was one of only four championship races contested during the abbreviated 1934 season. Typical of AAA competition in the Depression era, the race emphasized durability and control on a rough fairground track rather than sheer speed.
Shorty Cantlon won the race driving a Weil-Miller, completing the distance at an average speed of 79.88 mph. Frank Brisko finished second, followed by Billy Winn in third, George Barringer in fourth, and Russ Snowberger in fifth. The result awarded valuable championship points that contributed to Bill Cummings’ eventual national title, even though Cummings was not among the top finishers at Syracuse.
