The 1977 CAM 2 Motor Oil 400, run on June 19th at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan was the 15th race of the 1977 NASCAR Winston Cup Series, The race featured a competitive 200‑lap, 400‑mile showdown on the fast two‑mile superspeedway. David Pearson won the pole position for the event driving for Wood Brothers Racing, but it was Cale Yarborough in the No. 11 Junior Johnson Chevrolet who dominated the day, leading the most laps — 106 of 200 — and pulling away for a convincing 10‑second victory over Richard Petty. The race included multiple leaders and lead changes among several top drivers, with Benny Parsons, Dave Marcis, Donnie Allison and others cycling to the front during the event as the track saw the typical high‑speed Michigan drafting and strategy play out. Four cautions slowed the action for a total of 25 laps. The average speed of the race was 135.033 mph in warm June conditions with an attendance of about 61,200 fans in the grandstands. Yarborough’s win marked his first at Michigan since 1970 and helped him maintain a strong position in the championship points standings as the season moved past its halfway point.
