On September 16, 1922, the Syracuse AAA automobile race was held on the one‑mile dirt track at the New York State Fairgrounds. Tom Alley captured the victory, completing the 50‑mile event in 38 minutes and 44 seconds. Bill Albertson finished a strong second, followed by Cornelius Van Ranst in third. Louis Hoyt took fourth place, while L. L. Corum rounded out the top five. The one‑mile oval demanded skill and precision, as drivers navigated the dirt surface at high speeds, testing both their endurance and the reliability of their machines. While the race was sanctioned by the AAA, it did not count toward the national championship, yet it showcased the competitive spirit and rising talent of American auto racing in the early 1920s.
