The 1931 Altoona 100, held on July 4 at the Altoona Speedway near Tyrone, Pennsylvania, was a 100-mile points race on the high-banked 1.25-mile wooden board oval. Lou Moore dominated the event, leading all 80 laps to claim victory at an average speed of 112.852 mph. He was followed by Jimmy Gleason in second and Wilbur Shaw in third. This race marked one of the final major events at Altoona, as the track closed at the end of the 1931 season due to the economic pressures of the Great Depression and the high costs and safety concerns associated with wooden board tracks. Moore’s win became part of the track’s closing chapter in AAA championship history.
