DeWitt, captured the victory in a thrilling finish. Parsons led 143 laps and edged out Cale Yarborough, who led 275 laps, by just one second—the closest margin in the track’s history. Pole-sitter Darrell Waltrip in the #88 Chevrolet led the first two laps but finished third, two laps behind. Finishing fourth was Dave Marcis followed by Richard Petty in fifth. Attendance was reported at 20,000, and the race featured three cautions for 27 laps along with three lead changes among the top contenders.
