Elmer Ray George (July 15, 1928 – May 31, 1976) was an American racecar driver from Hockerville, Oklahoma who competed in the AAA and USAC Championship Car series during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Over his career he made 64 starts in championship car racing, recording a victory at the 1957 Syracuse 100 and finishing in the top ten many times. In addition to his championship car exploits, George was the 1957 USAC Sprint Car Series champion, demonstrating his strength on short ovals and dirt tracks before moving into the top ranks of American open‑wheel racing.
George made three starts in the Indianapolis 500, qualifying and competing in the 1957, 1962, and 1963 races, with his best result being 17th place in 1962 while driving a team entry associated with his wife Mari’s racing efforts. Beyond his driving career, George was involved with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network later in life. He is also remembered for his connections to the Hulman family and the broader racing community, though his life ended tragically in 1976.
