Len Sutton

Lenard “Len” Dale Sutton (August 9, 1925 – December 4, 2006) was an American racecar driver from Aims and Portland, Oregon, whose career spanned the late 1950s through the mid‑1960s. A veteran of the AAA/USAC Championship Car circuit, Sutton made more than 75 national starts, earning three wins and numerous top‑ten finishes against the top drivers of his era. Before rising to the national stage, he was a standout in Pacific Northwest racing, claiming multiple midget and regional championships and eventually stepping up to compete across the country at the highest levels of American open‑wheel racing.

Sutton competed in seven Indianapolis 500 races between 1958 and 1965, with his most notable result coming at the 1962 Indianapolis 500, where he started from the fourth position, led nine laps, and finished second to teammate Rodger Ward — the best result of his Indy career. After retiring from driving, Sutton remained involved in motorsports as a broadcaster for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network and was remembered for his versatility across cars and disciplines.
