1979 Golden Wonder (UK) “All Stars”

The 1979 Golden Wonder Sporting All Stars was a popular UK promotional trading card set featuring 24 multi-sport stars from athletics, cricket, boxing, swimming, rugby, golf, and motorsport. Produced by the snack-food company Golden Wonder (best known for potato chips/crisps), it was the third in a series of “All Stars” releases that ran from 1977 to 1980.

Each card measures a compact 1 1/2″ × 2 11/16″ (38 mm × 68 mm) with rounded corners. They were distributed free inside packets of Golden Wonder corn snacks and potato crisps — one card randomly inserted per bag — encouraging kids and collectors to complete the set while munching.

The set includes two auto-racing cards: #1 Niki Lauda (Formula 1) and #21 James Hunt (Formula 1). The rest of the set covers a wide range of British sporting heroes, making these small, colourful cards a nostalgic favorite among 1970s collectors.
