1951 AAA National Championship

In the 1951 AAA Championship Car season, which consisted of 15 races from May 30 to November 11, Tony Bettenhausen captured the National Championship with dominant consistency. He won a series-high eight races (mostly on dirt ovals), earned four poles, and amassed 2,556 points driving the Belanger Special Kurtis-Offy.

Lee Wallard won the season-opening Indianapolis 500 in dramatic fashion, leading most of the way despite mechanical issues and surviving heavy attrition that left only eight cars running at the finish. Other notable winners included Walt Faulkner, who took the experimental Darlington 250 on July 4.

Henry Banks finished runner-up with strong podium consistency but no victories, while Walt Faulkner placed third. The season highlighted the rugged demands of dirt-track racing and the reliability of Offenhauser-powered cars in an era of high mechanical attrition.
