The 1932 La Pie Qui Chante card set was a French promotional issue produced by the popular La Pie Qui Chante (“The Singing Magpie”) biscuit and candy company. Released as part of their third series (Series B), the set contains 90 small black-and-white cards featuring athletes from various sports. Each card measures approximately 29mm x 49mm, with a photograph on the front and a short French-language biography on the reverse. These cards were distributed as premiums with product purchases in 1932.
Of particular interest are the nine automobile racing cards included in the set. These cards highlight some of the most famous drivers of the late 1920s and early 1930s Grand Prix and land speed record era. The racing subset includes major stars such as Louis Chiron, Malcolm Campbell, Jules Goux, and several other prominent French and European competitors of the period. The cards capture the glamour and danger of the golden age of European motor racing, featuring drivers who competed for legendary teams like Bugatti, Alfa Romeo, and Delage.
Today, the 1932 La Pie Qui Chante racing cards are quite rare and highly sought after. Because of their small size and fragile paper construction, well-preserved examples are difficult to find. They remain one of the earliest and most attractive European auto racing card issues from the pre-war period, offering a wonderful glimpse into the heroes of 1930s motorsport.
