1nternational automobile-racing cards had several mixed set issues in 1952 while the United States produced few significant racing-card issues. In France, the 1952 Félix Potin collection is one of the year’s major issues, with its 285-card set featuring a substantial automobile section that included stars such as Alberto Ascari, Juan Manuel Fangio, and Giuseppe Farina. Spain produced the colorful Cliper Héroes Mundiales, a 168-card album collection with 30 automobile-racing cards covering Grand Prix, Indianapolis and land-speed-record personalities. Other European issues continued to document the leading drivers and cars of the rapidly expanding postwar racing scene, while the American market had no major dedicated automobile-racing card set in 1952. With the World Championship for Drivers entering only its third season, these international issues provide an especially interesting snapshot of the sport’s leading personalities during this formative period.
