The 1970 Schaefer 300, held July 12 at the 1.5-mile Trenton Speedway, drew 21,000 fans for a 37-car field.
Bobby Isaac sat on the pole in the #71 K&K Insurance Dodge at 131.749 mph. Richard Petty, starting fourth in his #43 Petty Enterprises Plymouth Superbird, won by 2.3 seconds over Bobby Allison after leading 134 laps. Charlie Glotzbach finished third, followed by Dick Brooks and James Hylton.
The race, slowed by three cautions for 13 laps, averaged 120.724 mph over 200 laps. Petty earned $6,730 for his eighth win of the season and 109th career victory. Following the event, Hylton took a 28-point lead over Isaac in the standings.
