1956 Daytona Beach & Road Course

The 1956 Daytona Beach and Road Course Grand National race, the sixth event of the season, was held on February 26 on the unique 4.1-mile beach-and-road circuit before 29,000 fans. A massive 76-car field took the green flag. Tim Flock sat on the pole in the Carl Kiekhaefer No. 300A Chrysler with a qualifying speed of 135.747 mph.

The race was shortened to 37 laps by the incoming high tide. Flock dominated, leading 34 of the 37 laps after passing Jim Paschal on lap 27, and won by 57 seconds over Billy Myers. Flock collected $4,025 for 37th career Grand National victory. Ralph Moody finished third (after rolling his car earlier but continuing), followed by Jimmie Lewallen and Jim Reed. The event featured just two cautions for two laps and produced an average speed of 90.657 mph.
