1952 Cliper (ES) Heroes Mundiales

Issued by Editorial Cliper of Spain in 1952, Héroes Mundiales was a 168-card collection designed to be placed in the accompanying Álbum Documental Héroes Mundiales. The album covered three principal subjects—aviation, automobile racing and motorcycle racing.

The cards measure approximately 7.4 × 4.5 cm (2⅞ × 1¾ inches) and are blank backed. The front of each card features an attractive color illustration, the name of the subject, and the card number; the biographical and historical information was presented in the album rather than on the cards themselves. Cards were distributed separately for collectors to acquire and paste into the corresponding spaces in the album.

Of particular interest to automobile-racing collectors is the set’s 30 racing cards, which cover a remarkably broad selection of the sport. The section includes Grand Prix drivers, land-speed-record figures and Indianapolis competitors, representing both European and American racing. Among the American subjects are Indianapolis stars Bill Holland, Johnnie Parsons and Rex Mays, while the Grand Prix portion includes drivers such as Juan Manuel Fangio, Alberto Ascari and Tazio Nuvolari.
