1929-30 Rogers Peet

The 1929-1930 Rogers Peet card set is a scarce, regionally issued multi-sport trading card promotion distributed by the Rogers Peet Company, a chain of men’s clothing stores primarily operating in New York and Boston. This 48-card set, issued mainly in 1929 (with possible extension into early 1930), features black-and-white photographs of prominent athletes from various sports on the fronts, surrounded by a white border that includes the player’s name and card number at the bottom; the backs are entirely blank. The cards measure approximately 44 mm by 64 mm (equivalent to about 1-3/4″ by 2-1/2″).

Cards were given away as a promotional incentive—typically four at a time with purchases of young men’s clothing—often in small wax paper envelopes, and they were intended for collection into a 14-page album. Due to the limited regional distribution and low survival rate over the decades, the set is considered one of the tougher and scarcer pre-war multi-sport issues from the era. High-grade examples are particularly rare, and cards of major stars like Babe Ruth are highly coveted among collectors. This release exemplifies early 20th-century retailer promotions that leveraged sports celebrities to attract customers, though its restricted scope makes it more rare than many comparable period sets.

The Peter DePaolo card #30 is the only auto racing card in this set.
