The 1957 “Racing and Sports Cars” set was issued by the British Automatic Scales Co. in the United Kingdom. It is a scarce, non-sports trading card series featuring illustrations or images of 1950s-era Formula 1, Grand Prix, and sports cars. There is no mention of specific drivers in this set.
The complete set consists of 24 cards. Each card measures approximately 38mm x 64mm (1½ x 2½ inches). These cards were not distributed through traditional packs of gum or cigarettes; instead, they were machine-vended as novelty items. They dispensed automatically from coin-operated public automatic weighing scales (common “weight and fortune” machines found in public spaces across the UK at the time), serving as a promotional collector’s item alongside a weight reading.
No special albums or inserts were produced with the set. Today, complete sets are considered vintage collectibles and occasionally appear on auction sites and trading card marketplaces.
