The 1950 NASCAR Grand National season was the second official year of racing under NASCAR sanctioning. The series featured 19 races, including the inaugural Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway, the first 500‑mile NASCAR event and a landmark in the sport’s history. Bill Rexford won the season championship, becoming the youngest champion in NASCAR at the time, while drivers like Fireball Roberts, Lee Petty, and Herb Thomas were among the regular competitors. The season helped establish NASCAR as a premier stock car racing organization in the United States, setting the stage for the growth of national stock car competition.
