On August 8, 1965, the USAC Championship Car Series contested the Langhorne 125 at the newly paved one-mile Langhorne Speedway in Pennsylvania. Twenty-two cars started the race for a total purse of $18,925. Gordon Johncock sat on the pole in the #76 Weinberger Homes Watson-Offy and led the first 42 laps before Jim McElreath, driving the #52 John Zink Brabham-Offy, took the lead on lap 43 and dominated the remaining 83 circuits to claim the victory and $3,600. A.J. Foyt finished second in the #1 Sheraton-Thompson Lotus-Ford, followed by Johncock, Mario Andretti, and Bobby Unser. The race was completed in 1 hour, 11 minutes, 32 seconds at an average speed of 104.857 mph, giving McElreath his second win of the season at the historic track.
