David Pearson captured the pole with a qualifying speed of 73.800 mph in the #17 Holman-Moody Ford. Richard Petty, starting second in the #43 Petty Enterprises Plymouth, scored the victory over Buddy Baker. Bobby Allison finished third, followed by Bobby Isaac and David Pearson. Petty collected $1,200 for the win—his 84th career Grand National victory—and led 180 laps. He averaged 64.935 mph in a race slowed by three cautions for 19 laps. Bobby Isaac increased his point lead over David Pearson to 47 points after his 4th place finish.
