1969 Northern 300

The 1969 Northern 300, held July 13 at the newly redesigned 1.5-mile Trenton Speedway, marked the first NASCAR race on the longer “kidney bean” configuration and drew a disappointing crowd of just 12,000 for a 37-car field.

Bobby Isaac captured the pole in the #71 K&K Insurance Dodge at 132.668 mph. David Pearson, starting second in the #17 Holman-Moody Ford, won the 200-lap, 300-mile event at an average speed of 121.008 mph after two cautions for 10 laps. He finished a full lap ahead of Bobby Allison, with Isaac third, James Hylton fourth, and LeeRoy Yarbrough fifth.

Pearson earned $5,300 for his eighth win of the season and 54th career Grand National victory, extending his points lead over Richard Petty to 106.
