Bobby Isaac captured the pole with a speed of 83.635 mph in his K&K Insurance Dodge (crew chief Harry Hyde) and dominated the 500-lap event, leading 445 laps. He won by a full lap over Bobby Allison after a race that featured 10 lead changes among just three drivers (Isaac, Allison, and Richard Petty) and lasted 3 hours, 33 minutes, 59 seconds. Petty finished third, followed by Charlie Glotzbach and Donnie Allison. Only three cautions slowed the field for 33 laps as Isaac averaged 73.681 mph and collected $6,250—his fourth victory of the year and the 36th of his career.
