On June 17, 1973, a crowd of 43,700 fans turned out at Riverside International Raceway in California for the Tuborg 400. The 2.62-mile road course hosted a competitive 40-car field for the 153-lap event. Richard Petty earned the pole position with a qualifying speed of 110.027 mph, but it was Bobby Allison who stole the show.
Allison drove to a commanding victory, finishing more than one minute and thirteen seconds ahead of second-place Richard Petty. Benny Parsons took third, followed by Jimmy Insolo in fourth and Cecil Gordon in fifth. The race was slowed by four caution periods for a total of 22 laps, with the overall average speed finishing at 100.215 mph. Allison collected $12,750 for the win — his first victory of the 1973 season.
The strong performance by the top runners saw Allison and Petty lap the rest of the field. Afterward, Benny Parsons extended his championship point lead to 233.6 points over Cecil Gordon, further strengthening his position in the season-long battle.
